Hypertension Intervention Program

What is Hypertension?

Hypertension is another name for High Blood Pressure. Blood pressure is the force on the walls of the arteries as the blood circulates and this allows blood to flow and deliver nutrients to the body. We measure blood pressure with two numbers. The top number is the blood pressure when your heart beats. The bottom number is your blood pressure when your heart relaxes and refills with blood.

Why should I worry about my blood pressure?

High Blood Pressure affects more than 1 in 5 people. When your blood pressure is high, your heart has to work harder to pump blood to all parts of your body. High Blood Pressure is a silent killer and is the leading cause of stroke, heart attack, kidney problems and eye problems. Every 7 minutes in Canada, someone dies from heart disease or stroke.

We want you to stay healthy, our aim is to screen and manage everyone for High Blood Pressure.
